Hairspray is your friend. Long gone are the days of Aqua Net. Hairsprays come in all different types now. If you want to avoid mediocore hold, flakes and hair spray that dries out your hair, don't go for the cheap stuff! Invest in a good hairspray, your hair and friends will thank you! Now you have Volumizing, Flexible hold, Strong hold, and what I like to call helmet head. (Really Really Strong hairspray.) Shelby was right... it is a brown football helmet! Best line ever. The different types of hairspray is pretty self explanatory. But, just incase you wanted to make sure you were using the correct hairspray then here's a bulleted list to calm your nerves.

1) Always spread the product with your hands first. Seems simple right? There's nothing worse than putting product in your hair and seeing a glob of product in the front. Then you have to try to spread it in the hair hoping for the best, or just end up washing it out and starting over. Ain't nobody got time for that.
2) If you're using good products, less is usually more. Remember It's easier to put more product in, than it is to have to wash it out. (See tip 1) 3) The dryer the hair the stronger the hold. This is for molding pastes, waxes and finishing products. If you want extra hold, Blowdry your hair into the position you want it and then hit it with your styling product you spread out in your hands. (Again see tip 1) 4) All heat protectants are meant to be put in towel dried hair. Again simple right? It's also a good idea to spread the product throughout your hair either with a brush or comb. You want to get an even saturation so you have a consistent result. Nothing worse than having sleek roots with frizzy ends... yuk. Are you a man and not sure what kind of look would fit your face shape? Here's a great chart I found here that gives great examples.
It's great to have a holiday where we express our love and caring for another. Maybe we went to dinner with our loved ones, bought them flowers, candy, maybe a little teddy bear. Now that Valentines day is over, while I was riding my bike around San Diego, I thought... We spend so much time and money on our loved ones, but how much time do we spend on loving ourselves on a day to day basis?
How much time do we take in our hectic lives to pamper ourselves? Do we hit snooze 6 or 7 more times just to get that interrupted, restless sleep for 20 more minutes? ( I know I do) Then we roll out of bed with 20 minuets less time to get ready thanks to the snooze button. Because of that we shower quickly, (if at all) towel dry our hair, run our fingers to through it and go? Or Maybe you feel like: "Well I don't really know how to style my hair good so why bother."? Well I don't know about you but I could use to give myself an extra 5 minuets in the morning for a little pampering. When I do something simple for myself, like moisturize my skin, maybe take that extra time to blowdry my hair. (I know I don't have hair but work with me here) I feel better about myself because I gave myself some love. Moisturizing everyday really makes a huge diffrence in your skin. Also Guys see their girlfriends blowdrying their hair and think that takes way too long. But the fact of the matter is, for the most part, it takes no more than 5 minuets to blowdry short hair. It can make a big diffrence in getting your hair to do what you want and looking amazing as apposed to just ok. Blowdrying works like this, when your hair is wet, there are hydrogen bonds that are broken in the hair. Then when the hair dries, those bonds reform in whatever position the hair dries in. Thats why if you goto bed with wet hair, you wake up with serious bed head. Its the position your hair dried in on the pillow. Hence why it's usually sticking up all over the place. So if you blowdry your hair up in the front, it will stay up easier than using product alone. It takes all of 5 minutes to dry. Also you get much more hold with product on dry hair and it keeps more of a natural look. Not a greasy or crunchy look from the 90s. Schwarzkopf has amazing products for both men and women. I exclusivly use Schwarzkopf for color, styling, etc because the result is always beautiful. So give yourself a little more love in the mornings by taking at least 5 extra minuets to make yourself look more beautiful on the outside, to feel even better on the inside. If you want styling tips, don't hessitate to ask me or your stylist, We're here to help! Ok, so the right tools can make all the difference. By tools I mean like a comb or brush. Now depending on if you want volume, or less volume will depend on how much space between bristles you have. If you use the wide tooth part of the comb, or a vent brush with a lot of space between the bristles then that will create volume. If you use the fine tooth side of the comb, or a round brush with a lot of bristles, or a boar bristle brush, you will get a more polished sleek look. Now you can still create volume with a round brush if it has many bristles. That all depends on how much you overdirect the hair from where it lays. If your hair lays back on top of your head, you would blowdry all the hair forward. These are just some basic all around good tips to help you look as fabulous at home, as you do when leaving the salon... Well lets hope you're looking fabulous when you leave the salon! |
